💪 How to Prepare Yourself (Mindset & Confidence)

🧠 Mental Preparation

  • Don't worry about being perfect. Lessons are for learning, not performing. Mistakes are part of the process!
  • Get a good night's sleep. You'll focus better and learn more when rested.
  • Eat something light. Don't study hungry, but don't eat right before either.
  • Set a positive mindset. You're investing in yourself - that's awesome! 🎉
  • Arrive early (online). Test your connection 5-10 minutes before start time.

💻 Technical Setup (For Online Lessons)

Before Your First Online Lesson

1
Test Your Connection
Run a speed test at speedtest.net. You need at least 5 Mbps download speed.
2
Check Camera & Microphone
Open your video call app (Zoom, Google Meet, etc.) and test both. Can you see yourself? Can you hear your voice?
3
Choose Your Platform
Ask me which video platform we'll use. I typically use Zoom, but I'm flexible (Google Meet, Skype, etc.)
4
Set Up Your Space
Find a quiet, well-lit room. Position your camera at eye level. Close unnecessary tabs/notifications.
5
Reduce Background Noise
Close windows/doors. Mute notifications. If using a laptop mic, consider a headset for better audio.

What I'll Be Looking For

What's Normal to Feel

Remember: I'm here to help you, not judge you. My job is to make you feel comfortable and confident. You're in a safe space to learn and make mistakes. 💙

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What if I'm too nervous or can't think of words?

Completely normal! I'll help you. I'll ask questions, give you time to think, and guide you. Nervousness goes away after the first 5-10 minutes. By the end of your lesson, you'll be talking much more naturally.

Do I need to prepare homework before my first lesson?

No! Your first lesson is about assessment and understanding your goals. However, if you want to prepare, just listen to some English or think about your learning goals.

Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes, just let me know at least 24 hours in advance. Life happens! Just communicate early so I can help you find another time.

How much will I improve after one lesson?

You'll feel more confident and learn 2-3 new things immediately. Real progress comes from consistency (2-3 lessons per week over 8-12 weeks). Each lesson builds on the last.

What if I need to do online but my internet is bad?

We can do a phone call instead! Not ideal, but we can work with it. Alternatively, we can schedule for when you have better connection.

Should I study English before my first lesson?

Optional! It might help you feel more confident. Listen to a podcast, watch a short English video, or read something simple. But don't stress if you don't have time.

What if I want to skip my lesson or cancel?

Just tell me! No judgment. Life gets busy. Just give me notice so I can help reschedule. Consistency is important for progress, but I understand if you need flexibility.

How long until I see real progress?

You'll notice small improvements after 2-3 lessons. Noticeable progress comes after 2-3 months of consistent lessons. Your confidence and fluency improve fastest with regular practice between lessons.
